Electrician SEO — the 90-day playbook for 2,900 searches a month at 0.06 competition

Per SEMrush, the keyword "electrician seo" has 2,900 monthly searches and a competition score of 0.06. That's the largest open SEO opportunity in any residential trade. For comparison, plumber SEO sits at 0.08 and HVAC SEO at 0.16. Electrician SEO is wider open than both — and almost nobody in the agency world is going after it because electricians have a reputation for being hard to sell to (mostly true, mostly because they've been burned by previous agencies).

If you're an electrical contractor — residential service, commercial, or a hybrid — this is the 90-day playbook to win local search before any of your competitors notice.

Day 1–7: Foundation

Day 8–30: Programmatic city × service pages

Electrical work has unusually high search demand for specific services. "EV charger installation [city]" alone has 1,000+ monthly searches in any metro with Tesla penetration. "Generator installation [city]" has 700+ in hurricane-prone or grid-fragile regions. "Panel upgrade [city]" runs 400+ even in suburban markets.

You need a page per city × per service. Electrician Naples. EV charger installation Naples. Generator installation Naples. Panel upgrade Naples. Multiply by every city you cover.

10 cities × 6 services = 60 pages. Each unique content (local building code references, average age of housing stock — older homes need more panel work, newer homes need EV chargers — and neighborhood references). Full schema on every one.

The compounding here is real. Most electrical contractors have 1 page on their site that says "we service these cities." That page ranks for nothing. 60 pages targeted at long-tails rank for hundreds of variations.

Day 30–60: Reviews + map-pack signal

Electricians have a unique review advantage and a unique review problem. Advantage: homeowners are grateful when an electrician shows up — high-stakes work, immediate relief. Problem: most electricians don't ask. The average electrical contractor has 14 reviews. Top-performing ones have 200+.

Build an automated post-visit text sequence: 24 hours after job completion, one-tap Google review link. Aim for 15–20% conversion. At 60 service calls per week that's 10+ new reviews per month. In 6 months you've gone from 14 to 70+ reviews and become the obvious choice in the map pack.

Weekly GBP posts. Panel upgrade photos (with the breakers labeled — homeowners love that). EV charger install photos. Generator hookups. "Did you know" tips about GFCI testing, AFCI breakers, surge protection. Every post is a signal.

Day 60–90: EEAT + backlinks

Electrical is the most EEAT-sensitive trade — Google's "Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness" framework treats licensed-trade content with extra scrutiny because of fire and shock risk. This works in your favor if you do it right:

Backlinks: local chambers, BNI, Generac dealer network, Tesla Powerwall installer directory, EV charger manufacturer installer lists, local home-builder associations. Most of these are free to claim and most electricians don't.

The math by Day 90

You should be in the map pack for "electrician [your city]" and ranking on page 1 for 20–30 long-tail variations (EV charger installation [city], generator installation [city], panel upgrade [city], emergency electrician [city]). Organic call volume should be 3x where you started.

A residential electrical service call averages $300–$800. A panel upgrade is $2,500–$5,000. EV charger installation is $1,500–$3,500. Generator installation is $8,000–$15,000. If this work generates 6 additional booked jobs per month at an average ticket of $1,500, that's $108K of annual additional revenue — for a one-time SEO program that costs a tiny fraction of that.
